This vessel was built as an Aviator Rescue Boat (“AVR”) during the end of World War II. She was never completed, never saw action, never commissioned, and never assigned a “P” number. She was reportedly sold privately along with a sister ship (“FIREBIRD”) and both were converted to her present configuration by Burger Boat Company. The conversion includes her Art Deco “whaleback” cabin lines and the necessary movement of most bulkheads and deck cabins. Additionally, in more recent years, the current owner expanded on her design by adding the "Helicopter Pad" (not functional but adds another great outdoor deck space!) The yacht is well constructed and well engineered, built to be tough and light. Reportedly, in 2008, her bottom was re-planked and covered with heavy fiberglass in epoxy. This work was found well done and should prove good protection and lend some structural support for the bottom for decades to come. This process will also greatly reduce maintenance of the bottom.
